there�s a reason why so many of house music�s early releases have endured over the decades. the best of them have a quality that defies logic. early house records like heard s own -washing machine,- or the -no way back- by adonis, still have the power to stun listeners and drive clubs wild. they sound alien and beautiful, simultaneously ingrained within us and so unlike everything that followed. and few sound as beautiful, or as alien, as -can you feel it.- by 1986, heard�who was born and bred in chicago and been playing in bands as a drummer�had already proved to the world that he was a master of poignant, enthralling house. the previous year�s elegant �mystery of love,� originally released on alleviated records, had featured an insistent ascending bassline repeating under a plaintive, swooning analog synth, with a gentle, conga-led rhythm setting the pace. it was soon rerecorded in a slightly more fleshed-out style, this time featuring frequent collaborator robert owens on vocals��there�s a moment in our lives when we all must try the mystery of love��and rereleased on d.j. international.

by the time the jungle brothers rapped about it in 1988, house music had been bumping in nyc clubs for years. even though the genre would go on to become a global phenomenon, house music had humble beginnings in predominantly gay and black clubs in chicago. musically, house music was inspired by the eclectic dance records played by djs frankie knuckles and ron hardy at clubs like �the warehouse� and �muzik box�. with a growing club scene, labels like trax records and dj international played a major role in the development of the genre. founded in 1984, trax was an important outlet for house music in its early days, releasing many classics including -no way back- by adonis, larry heard s -can you feel it,- and the first so-called house anthem in 1986, -move your body- by marshall jefferson. this latter tune gave a massive boost to house music, extending recognition of the genre outside of chicago.

montréal native marie davidson�s unique form of synth pop has become an undeniable force in modern music, and until now her 2013 debut has only been available through digital download and limited edition cassette. on april 13, 2018 marie davidson�s newly re-mastered self-titled ep will be available for the first time on pink colored vinyl with foil stamped deluxe packaging and download code included. her debut chronicles the development of davidson before her three critically acclaimed full-length lps, high profile press coverage and headlining slots at international festivals.

fort romeau returns with his first 12inch of 2018 following a string of releases on live at robert johnson, running back and ghostly international as well as appearances on compilations from rush hour, cocoon, and mule musiq. on the a side, pablo unfurls with swirling arpeggios which build to a euphoric crescendo while the more heady terracotta explores polyphonic syncopated fm sequences and ambiguous chord progressions.

a native of the caribbean coast of colombia, abelardo carbono achieved legendary status in his country�s storied ranks of musical icons by combining the homegrown sounds of cumbia with the chiming guitars of west african soukous, enormously popular with the local tropical sound systems, and drenching the whole thing in his off-kilter, surreal and slightly psychedelic sensibility.
with the exception of a well-received compilation of songs from his 1980s heyday, carbono has been rarely heard from outside the sweaty dancehalls he still commands in his hometown of barranquilla. now, names you can trust has welcomed the reclusive guitarist and singer back to the vinyl format with a simmering afro-carib beast of a cut, recorded with the assistance of will -quantic- holland on rhythm guitar and mario galeano frente cumbiero, ondatropica on keys and in conjunction with lucas silva of palenque records & polen records. it�s a true cross-generational and international collaboration that is uniquely possible via colombia. the first release of this expansive & power packed studio session is a cover of vallenato pioneer guillermo buitrago�s la piña madura. this updated take veers heavily towards africa on a rock solid foundation of bass and drums, with abelardo�s trademark guitar and quirky vocals leading the way.

following her 1959 appearance in the anti-apartheid film come back, africa south african native miriam makeba vaulted into the international spotlight, fell under the tutelage of harry belafonte, and moved to new york city in 1960 where she immediately became a massive recording sensation. this lp collects some of that brilliant early material that launched her career and made her one of the most beloved voices of the 20th century. all tracks recorded 1957 - 1962.

back in 90s san francisco scott, gavin and robbie hardkiss helped pioneer the american underground scene with their club nights, warehouse parties and groundbreaking record label. they forged a new direction for dance music with a string of vinyl releases by hawke, god within, little wing and rabbit in the moon, culminating in the seminal compilation delusions of grandeur released in 1995. delusions of grandeur made the billboard dance charts, went to no.1 on the rolling stone alternative album chart and launched the international dj/production careers of the hardkiss brothers. in 2018 to celebrate the 20th anniversary, the album was remastered and re-released with this new vinyl.
